MISSGUIDED X SU — Unidays x Missguided Fashion Design Competition.
Big thanks to Unidays for notifying me three days before the deadline! I quickly and eagerly took part in this design competition where it was required to design one of the following garments:
- graphic tee
One design for one garment — this decision had been ever so difficult for me as my ideas were overflowing and I wanted to design for each garment but alas, I chose dress in the end.
I briefly and speedily did some research on Missguided’s ethos and values as I was already pretty aware of the brand. Above were keywords and key phrases I had gathered along with a few brief words to describe the fashion trends of 2020 following onto this year — these consist of popular colours, material, styles, prints, silhouettes and cuts etc.
Embarking on this last-minute brief was super exciting and it allowed be to finally make a start in designing work towards my interests lying in fashion! Overall, I was happy with the concept I put forward as it fits with Missguided’s ‘thing’ of following new trends and producing affordable clothes inspired by higher-end brands. While designing this two-piece sweater-dress, I could just imagine how much I’d love to wear it myself and could totally envision it.
While I’m really happy with the thought put into this submission and the concept itself, had I had more time to work on it, I definitely would’ve refined the sketches up and created something close to what the final garment would look like through experimenting in software’s such as Adobe XD, although the brief highlighted the sketches didn’t matter so much as the concept itself — regardless, I intend to develop on this design at some point in the future in order to put it towards my University submission, fulfilling LO4 and my portfolio.
