Experimenting: Personal Brand Identity — Introducing, suki studio…
My first round of creating a brand identity, which I’ve touched on this blog previously: (https://suki---studio.medium.com/learning-outcome-4-personal-branding-1c51510efa7f) I felt uninspired and uncreative from using the initials of my name to produce a visual identity, since then, I’ve reflected and developed.

Following the same theme of green and cream, but with two additions colours to bring some fun and dynamic. I quite liked this, very simple and minimal which is my style specifically for Graphics — ‘su designs’ was the chosen name at the time but I still didn’t love it.

I found it quite difficult to come up with a fun, catchy acronym for my ethnic name and didn’t desire to use my name entirely, so after much thinking, with my nickname ‘su’ and my name in mind, I combined my forename with my middle name to end up with ‘suki’, learning that it means beloved / loved one in Japanese. Finally, an acronym I resonate with! I could have fun playing with it visually as oppose to my formal name.
Above, my fourth iteration of my current brand identity, following the same signature colour palette. I had experiment more with this version, bringing in the circle-text-path from the previous iteration, to give a brief idea as to what I am and what I do. I had customised the ‘s’ and customised the ‘i’, it’s tittle, I had replaced with a comma which as of now, I’m using as a pictorial logo.
Comma, technically meaning a pause in written work, this is ironic to visual design work however, we too, need to pause, reflect and breathe. Surprisingly, when I had looked up synonyms to the word pause, most of them were quite negative, for example, ‘break off’, ‘delay’, ‘hesitate’. Well, I’m taking on the opposite, ‘rest’, ‘check’, ‘breathing space’.
Another point, the ‘i’ resembles a candle, something I personally love, I love candles and I love the experience of them, the comfort and warmth they bring, to further the idea of pausing, resting, breathing — overall, taking a moment.
